July 27, 2008 • Knowing God
Have you been blaming others for your behavior? Do you secretly believe that you are not responsible for your attitude and your actions? Have you said things like, “You’d sin too if you were married to my spouse,” or “You’d do what I’ve done if you had been raised in my family?” Be careful. You're playing a game where no one wins.
July 20, 2008 • Knowing God
There was a time that the United States would send missionaries to other countries to introduce them to the Gospel but now some of those same countries are sending missionary teams to America to evangelize to us. This nation which was built on Christian principles now needs to be reminded about God.
July 13, 2008 • Knowing God
What do you really know about God? Are you looking at a subset of information and making a determination about God? This is not good on either side; God does not want you to blindly follow him because “momma and them” follow him; he wants you to know him for yourself. Nor should you discount God without doing your due diligence. Religion is not the answer only a true relationship with the true God can heal a nation.
July 7, 2008 • Knowing God
In my relatively short life, I’ve come across many people. Some who claim to know God, some who claim to have a relationship with Him. Some who used to have a relationship with Him and now deny Him. Some who never have and in their mind never will acknowledge that there is a thing called God. But no matter the person, no matter their spiritual condition, the question is still valid, what do you really know about God? People confuse religion with God but they are separate. People confuse church with God but they are separate. Across the board most people really don’t know about God.
June 29, 2008 • Encouragement
When we operate on anything other than God’s word we position ourselves short of the full blessings of God. The church has gotten into the bad habit of using worldly systems to define itself. Now we must keep in mind that we are command by scripture to follow the laws of the land as long as they don’t require us to depart from scripture. But there are some beliefs that have crept into the church that have no place in the life of a Christian. One of them is the lie of self-esteem.
June 22, 2008 • Encouragement
In the last century, the word has become a semi-technical term in psychology, with different researchers giving the term slightly different nuances. The word self-esteem has been in our language for quite some time but in the past few generations our society has become engrossed with this thing called self-esteem. We are told to build it in our children and that by having a high level of it one can increase their chances of having a happy and prosperous life. One problem, it's a lie.

David is our model when it comes to praise but even in his dignified role as king, David had to give an undignified praise. Is it time for you to give God an undignified praise?

Have you ever watched a sporting event that while you were watching was a total blowout? You turn the game off thinking it's over just to find out the next day you missed a fantastic finish. Many of us turn off our spiritual lives because things are tough for a season but I want to encourage you to wait for the rest of the story.
May 27, 2008 • Revival
2 Chronicles 20
True revival happens when people in substantial numbers turn to God and give up their sinful ways. Within scripture this is usually characterized by a leader who recognizes his nation’s spiritual dryness and then took action while not being afraid to make his desires known to the people. The revival in this text applies to us because it shows what can happen when we decide to trust in God alone to help us. This biblical account shows us that through revival we can turn our discouragement into joy.
May 19, 2008 • Revival
Kirk Franklin sung a song a few years ago that asked the question, do you want a revolution? If you listen to the words of the song, you would see that they were singing about being fed up with a certain way of life. The items they sang about varied but the primary focus was on a radical change in our thought process. It could be said that they were promoting a sudden or momentous change in social behaviors. They called it a revolution but in the church we have this thing called revival. But what is a revival? Many churches have them but most members have no idea why they have this program called revival. Some churches have revival because “that’s what we’ve always done.” Some churches have revival because it is a way to get other people in the door to help them meet their financial obligations. But what is a revival supposed to accomplish?
